| ContraSIDA
Program (Against AIDS Program) is the only
program in SC providing HIV education exclusively to the Hispanic Community.
ContraSIDA delivers culturally and linguistically appropriate HIV/AIDS/STD
prevention, information, counseling and testing to achieve its goal of promoting
education and early detection among the Latino community. The program performs
activities that include: risk reduction counseling, outreach activities,
HIV testing and test counseling, resource advocacy, condom distribution,
HIV prevention trainings, social services, and community referrals.
The enormous diversity within Latino communities, representing many different countries with diverse cultures and HIV risk factors makes dealing with HIV/AIDS especially complex and challenging. Contra SIDA uses its expertise to effectively reach Hispanics at trailer parks, church gatherings, apartment complexes, restaurants, migrant camps and other gathering places. |
