CPTJ Participant´s Story

ANA

Upon arrival at “Connecting People to Jobs,” Ana had experienced a few mediocre jobs, however she was now out of work and searching for a means of income. When asked what kind of job she was looking for, she replied with the stereotypical answer: “Anything.” Ana had the educational background and working experience in accounting acquired in her native country of Panama, but she was only able to land menial jobs in the United States. These jobs included working in a restaurant, a cafeteria, and a doughnut shop. Although many Hispanics come to this country looking for whatever job is available, the main goal at CPTJ is to assess the skills of their clients in order to find jobs that better matches their abilities. CPTJ has valuable evaluation tools that aid in this process and therefore find the best job opportunities available at the current time.

After discussing her job history in Panama, the program began searching for a job related to finances and accounting. For people like Ana, it is essential to find out their work history to better understand what type of job matches their career goals.

After researching the job market, CPTJ found out that a tax service office was searching for two bilingual employees. CPTJ then sent Ana Ortega and another qualified client for an interview. Both women got the jobs, and now enjoy a great deal of success working in a career related to their fields.

However, this was not only a success for the two women. It eliminated a lengthy interview process at the tax service office. Our program found out about their need for bilingual personnel the same day they published the ad online, sent the two potential candidates the next day. CPTJ greatly facilitated their quest for qualified bilingual tax preparers. The tax service office was grateful to our program for all of the help and commitment in finding the right person for their needs.

Many companies, such as this one, are searching for Hispanic employees; however do not know where to encounter them. Because of this, CPTJ has been very cooperative in finding this outlet of workers.

This is only one example of the many jobs that CPTJ has successfully aided in arranging for the Hispanic Community. With each job found, the program sets up new opportunities for future success for every one of its participants. In CPTJ we are working hard everyday to get better jobs for our people!
